The
Eeekonomist has discovered an expensive supermarket checkout fraud which could
be ripping customers off by over £35million a year. Our investigator did
a normal weekly shop in our local Tesburys. We pushed our well stocked trolley
to the checkout, paid, and then went back to our car. But, instead of putting
our purchases in the car before driving home, we took all of the shopping out
of the carrier bags and then went back into the store. When we pushed our trolley
back to the checkout, the checkout girl put all of the goods through the till
again as if nothing had happened and then made us pay again. We demanded to speak
to the manager over this incident and we were referred to Head Office. Head Office
told us they are 'aware of this set of rare circumstances' and advised customers
'not to return to the store with trolley's filled with paid for purchases taken
out of the carrier bags if they do not want to pay for them again'. Tesbury's
made £4532mn profit last year. |
