Five thousand nervous Northern Rock investors rushed to get their money out again this morning after a television news report showed old pictures of queues outside one of the beleaguered bank's branches.

The BBC later amended the report to clearly show a date in the top right hand corner. But by that time it was too late.

Shelly Huggaton told this website: "I had already taken out all of my money in September but I rushed down to my local Northern Rock branch just to make sure the account was still closed."

Hillary Clinton, no relation to the US politician, said: "I had only just returned £257,154.34p into my account after having taken it out all of a sudden in September. Imagine my surprise when I saw, in a shop window, a report on the BBC's News 24, showing lines queuing outside Northern Rock again. I thought it must be in trouble again so I rushed off to start queuing. I quite enjoy it, if I was to be to be perfectly honest, an exciting queue! how British!"
