Vince Cable, who came to the attention of this paper after he temporarily led the Lib Dems last year, may be about to answer the question scientists have been waiting to answer for the last fifty years, if a doodle he drew is to be believed.

The doodle, which has been reviewed by a cartoonist who works for this paper, is thought to be the missing link between the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics.

Cable, the Lib Dem treasury spokesman, made the doodle while watching this week's edition of Horizon, we believe.

Cable, who recently excelled himself when he told the government what to do about the Northern Cock-up, was unavailable for comment when we thought about trying to contact him last night.
